Resume, a piece of paper that contains necessary and important information about you, your qualifications, achievements, your job history etc. is first thing any potential employer notices.

If you are serious about landing a job then your resume should offer only  right and relevant information such as academic qualifications, skills you have, job history and accomplishments, strengths etc. about you.

Job-seekers usually puts too much information on their resume, not sure what to leave out.

Below are mentioned some things that should never be mentioned on your resume as they are not exactly relevant:

  • Writing “Resume’” on the Top: It’s common mistake made by the majority of job-seekers. Refrain from mentioning the word Resume on the top; it’s an understood that it’s a resume’.
  • Do Not Mention Personal Information: Another common mistake made by job-seekers is that almost everyone writes their personal information such as date of birth, marital status, religion etc. on the resume. Mention aforementioned information if prospective employer asks for it, otherwise there’s no need to put them on resume.
  • Hobbies: Refrain from mentioning what you love to do in your spare time. Employers are not really interested in knowing about your hobbies. They will be more interested in your skills and if you are qualified candidate for their company. So don’t add “hobbies” just to fill in the page.
  • Mention Only Relevant Job Experience: If you want to make your look professional, then mention only relative previous job experience. Do not mention every part-time job experience you had before you got a full-time job.
Mentioning each and every trivial job experience might make you look like someone who leaves jobs on a whim.
  • Refrain From Mentioning Why You Left Previous Position: With the help of your resume you are supposed to make a positive impression on your prospective employer. Mentioning that you were fired or had left due to some disagreement with your ex-boss or any other issue reflects badly on you.
Surely, your prospective employer will like to know why you are interested in joining their company, but until then you can try to put your best foot forward.
  • Don’t Give False Information: Let your academic performance, job experience and skills speak for themselves, there’s no need to add false information in your resume. Remember, you are the one who will have to live up with the image you will create, if you get the job. So refrain from lying about having certain skill or job experience or educational qualifications, you do not have.

Some Other Things Not To Be Put On A Resume:

  • Add salary expectations only if you have been specifically asked to do so.
  • Giving vent to your negative thoughts is a strict no-no.
  • Offering information about family members.
  • Do not use sarcastic language on your resume.
  • Do not mention education course or some professional training, you have not finished.
  • Do not list tasks you are unwilling to do.
  • Do not write negative stuff about your ex-employer or colleagues.

Lastly, make your resume free of grammatical and spelling errors and use language that’s easily understood by people on day-to-day basis.
